In the festivals of Berriz, the main event to bid farewell to the Amabirjinak was held yesterday. The rain did not dampen the festivities, and citizens, along with dancers and musicians, completed the route from Erdikale to the main square in a joyful atmosphere.
Accompanied by local trikitixa and pandero players, they paraded in a 'kalejira' and performed the 'zahagi dantza' in the square. There, following the annual tradition, the dancers honored two local residents: Ane Mendizabal Itxaropena, a former dancer with the group, and Amaiur Aristi, a 'zahagi dantza' dancer. The tributes were met with surprise and emotion.
Aizpea Aristi, Amaiur's sister, danced a farewell to her, in a particularly moving moment. Afterwards, the townspeople joined the dancers to dance together in a circle, as they do every year.
The festivities officially concluded with the 'zezensuzkoa' (fire bull), and for those who still wanted to dance, the concert by the Laket romeria group extended the night.
