International Archives Week, promoted by the International Council on Archives, will take place from June 8th to 12th this year, under the theme Archives for justice: rights, memory, and future. This edition will focus on the fundamental role of archives in defending rights, preserving collective memory, and strengthening democratic societies.

"Archives, besides being repositories of documents, are also places to understand who we are and how we have arrived here. That is why, she emphasized, opening archives to the public is a way for public memory to belong to everyone, not just to those who know where to look. In times when disinformation spreads easily, archives offer something scarce: documents, dates, facts. That is also a public good."

Goizane Álvarez · Minister of Culture
Through the guided tours, visitors will be able to learn about the daily operations of the archives and explore spaces normally closed to the public, such as document storage areas, workrooms, or restoration laboratories. Additionally, original documents dating from the 15th to the 20th century will be exhibited, with a special focus in Oñati on materials related to justice and rights violations.
