The Durango City Council has implemented a new institutional public response procedure for cases of gender-based violence, aiming to ensure swift and coherent action in situations of particular severity.

This new procedure is part of the III Plan for Equality between Women and Men (2022-2027), which promotes lives free from violence and the active involvement of all local stakeholders in the prevention and comprehensive care of gender-based violence.

"Durango has actively worked on equality policies and against gender-based violence, but until now there was no specific protocol for an institutional public response."

The main objective of the procedure is to publicly position the City Council against gender-based violence, raise public awareness, highlight the problem, and support victims, demonstrating the community's unanimous rejection of violence. This initiative is based on principles of clarity, firmness, and respect, ensuring the victim's dignity and privacy.
The protocol is activated in severe cases, such as murder or attempted murder by a partner or ex-partner, femicide, serious sexual assaults, collective assaults, or when the aggressor is a person of public relevance. It also applies to situations that gain significant social relevance or notoriety within the municipality.
By activating this procedure, the City Council not only assumes its role in the public denunciation of gender-based violence but also supports victims and any social mobilizations that may arise. For instance, if the feminist movement organizes a protest, the City Council will join and endorse these actions, strengthening the collective fight against gender-based violence.

"It reinforces its commitment to the fight against gender-based violence and the promotion of equality. This protocol will guarantee a rapid and coherent action, making visible the unanimous rejection of gender violence and offering support to victims. We continue to advance towards a society more committed to equality."
