This event, coordinated by Gerediaga Elkartea with the collaboration of the Zornotza City Council, aims to be a driving force for cultural transmission in the face of globalization. Its main objective is to protect and promote the traditional dance heritage.
Saturday's program will begin at 5:30 PM with a kalejira (parade) of dantzaris (dancers) and txistularis (flute players) starting from Zelaieta Park, traversing the urban center to the Town Hall Square. There, at 6:00 PM, ten dance groups from Durangaldea will perform the complete Dantzari Dantza.
Participating groups include Udabarri from Amorebieta-Etxano; Iremine and San Lorentzo from Berriz; Kriskitin and Txoritxu Alai from Durango; Garaiko Dantza Taldea; Iurretako Dantzariak; Gazte Alai from Mallabia; Andra Mari from Mañaria; and Urduri from Otxandio. They will be joined by txistulari groups Udazken from Amorebieta-Etxano; Jaizale, the Durangaldeko txistularien elkartea; and Kaleik-Kale from Otxandio.
“"This gathering highlights our roots and strengthens local identity."
This festival, which originated in Iurreta in 1967, has evolved towards an active promotion model. After being reactivated in 2023, the organizers emphasize the need to strengthen the groups in the face of the current social situation. As a representative from Gerediaga pointed out, the shared challenge is to work together to “bring local culture and identity to the center of the square”.
The grand finale will take place at 8:30 PM with a dantza-poteo (dance and pintxo crawl) enlivened by the group Kittu.
