Durango City Council, backed by PNV, PSE, and PP, has dismissed measures proposed by EH Bildu to address the housing crisis, stating that a plan is already in motion.

An extraordinary plenary session was held today at Durango City Council to discuss the housing emergency in the municipality. Following a request from EH Bildu, the main opposition party, nine measures were put forward, primarily focused on increasing the supply of protected rental housing and mobilizing vacant properties.
According to data presented by EH Bildu, 2,147 individuals are registered with Etxebide awaiting housing in Durango, with 1,476 of them seeking rental accommodation. Concurrently, an estimated 1,405 vacant flats exist in the locality. The proposals from the abertzale party also included doubling the municipal public housing stock, creating communal accommodation for the elderly, and establishing a housing office.

"The governing team, comprising PNV and PSE, along with the PP, rejected these proposals, arguing that many of the suggested measures are already included in the current Housing Plan."

The Housing Plan, approved last March with the support of PNV, PSE, and PP, and the abstention of EH Bildu, encompasses 15 measures that are currently being implemented. Key actions include reaching a housing agreement, opening a public service office for housing matters, and reviewing municipal rental aid calls for young people. An information campaign to encourage the rental of vacant homes and a bonus of up to 90% on IBI for these properties are also significant objectives.
