Usurbil prepares for a May full of celebrations and cultural events

Throughout the month, the town of Usurbil will host a varied agenda of traditional events and novelties, highlighting the Andatza Eguna, San Isidro Eguna, and Sagardo Eguna.

The town of Usurbil will immerse itself in a May full of celebrations and cultural events, combining traditional dates such as Andatza Eguna, San Isidro Eguna, and Sagardo Eguna with various new activities.

The month will kick off with Andatza Eguna this Sunday, May 3rd, where residents will gather around the Andatza shelter. Food and drink will be plentiful, and the Zirimarak association has organized a family plan starting from San Esteban square at 9:30 AM.
On May 15th, San Isidro Eguna will be celebrated in the fronton and Dema square, featuring a brunch. During this event, Ane Labaka and Beñat Gaztelumendi will perform bertsos, and four locals will compete in a human strength test. Additionally, the 43rd edition of Sagardo Eguna will take place on May 24th, offering the opportunity to taste cider from farmhouses and cider houses in the morning, followed by an elektrotxaranga in the afternoon.
Among the celebrations, the second anniversary of the Txirikorda intergenerational housing community in Ugartondo will also be commemorated on May 16th. Furthermore, the parents' association of Zubieta school will organize the Udaberri Festa at the end of the month, coinciding with the end of the 2025-26 academic year.
In the cultural sphere, the municipal library Sutegi has organized a reading discussion on May 5th for children and young people over 10, focusing on Mariasun Landa's book Txan Fantasma. In addition, there will be a storytelling session by Mireia Delgado and a writing workshop led by Ana Merino.
The Kulturgunea Aginagako Eliza Zaharra will also offer a double cultural event during the Cultural Week that will unite Ipar Euskal Herria: the exhibition Züek Heben from the Geopoetic Atlas of Euskal Herria and the performance Argitzala by Jurgi Ekiza. The Gure Pakea association has invited the theater group Nagusilan Zuentzat to present a play on May 27th, and the Iñurri association has organized a musical poetry recital on May 10th at Sutegi, based on Nahia Intxausti's poetry collection Zainetatik Zilarra.
In sports, the male cadet team of Usurbil K.E. will play the promotion phase to the Basque League in the Oiardo sports center and the Spanish championship in Pamplona. The Emakume Master Cup will also be played in the Usurbil fronton on May 17th, featuring matches of professional female pelota players. On the same day, the Itzulia Women cycling race will cross the municipality as part of the third and final stage, which will start and end in Donostia.
Furthermore, on May 21st, the working group of Usurbil's care ecosystem has called a session to "exchange information, opinions, and make contributions for the future." A week earlier, a training session will be offered on the protocol to address sexist aggressions during festivities.
