The Usurbil City Council has organized a wide range of sports activities for the summer, taking place from July 1st to 30th, excluding the public holiday on July 2nd. For children and young people, there will be sports corners combining leisure, movement, and games, as well as sessions to learn skateboarding, climbing, and how to properly use gym equipment. For those over 16 years old, activities such as spinning, pilates, maintenance gymnastics, and functional training will be available. Specific sessions have also been arranged for pregnant women and those in postpartum.
The main novelty this year is the skateboarding course, following the renovation of the Bizkarreko skate park. The City Council has acquired eight skateboards to promote this activity, which the sports center will lend to those who need them, although helmets and other protective gear must be provided by the users themselves. The registration period is from April 16th to 27th, and it will not be possible to register for two different activities that coincide in schedule. Furthermore, attendance data for children will be collected to ensure reasonable use of the services.
The sports center will lend skateboards to those who need them, but helmets and other protective gear must be provided by each individual.
In other news, repair works on the area of the Oiardo sports center damaged by last August's fire are set to begin this week. The works are expected to last approximately five months and have been awarded to the company Igez Eraikuntzak SL with a budget of 641,396.50 euros. The tender process took longer than anticipated, as the City Council had to issue two calls for bids.
The fire particularly affected the sauna and swimming pool, incinerating the infrastructure. Studies conducted by the City Council estimated the damages at 641,000 euros, and a credit modification for this amount was approved in the October plenary session. The municipal government team has welcomed the start of the works as positive news but has warned that meeting deadlines cannot be guaranteed, as unforeseen damages might emerge. The goal is to fully reopen the sports center by autumn.
