The Trintxerpe neighborhood in Pasaia is set to recover one of its most emblematic social spaces this week with the reopening of the Senior Citizens' Home bar, which has been closed since March 2020 due to the pandemic.

After six years of inactivity, a new municipal tender will allow this service, highly demanded especially by the elderly in the municipality, to be relaunched. The official inauguration of the new tavern, which will be named Itsasertz, will take place on May 13 at 6:00 PM, led by the Trintxerpe senior citizens' club.
The City Council emphasizes that the reopening represents much more than just the recovery of a hospitality establishment, as this space has historically served as a meeting and socialization point for numerous elderly residents in the neighborhood.

"Recovering this space is not just about reopening a bar. It is about giving back to the neighborhood a fundamental meeting point for many elderly people, combating unwanted loneliness, and strengthening the social and community cohesion of Trintxerpe."

The municipal leader also added that public institutions “also have the responsibility to care for everyday spaces that generate community,” especially those linked to retired individuals who, for decades, have sustained a large part of the social and associative life of the municipality.
The City Council has highlighted the work done to recover various municipal facilities that had remained closed in recent years. As explained, the reopening of Itsasertz is part of a broader strategy aimed at reactivating municipal taverns and canteens, understood not only as hospitality businesses but also as spaces for coexistence, neighborhood relations, and community life in the different districts of Pasaia.
The inaugural event will be open to all citizens and will feature music and dance by Eskola Dantza Taldea. Additionally, the presentation will include pintxos and a festive atmosphere to celebrate the recovery of this social space.
Starting May 14, Itsasertz will be open from Tuesday to Sunday, from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM. The establishment will also offer a daily menu between 12:30 PM and 3:30 PM. Those interested in making reservations can do so by calling 674 273 242.
