Through this initiative, students from the Nautical School of Bermeo, the Fishing and Navigation School of Ondarroa, and the Blas de Lezo Nautical-Pesquera School in Pasaia will have the opportunity to undertake training internships on fishing vessels. Each participating company can receive up to 5,850 euros per student.
The primary goal is to familiarize young individuals with the realities of sea work and to foster the renewal of the Basque fishing fleet. These internships, lasting between 20 and 30 days, will allow students to gain practical experience in navigation, maintenance, maneuvering, safety, and fishing operations.
Furthermore, the program seeks to boost youth employment in fishing, rejuvenate crews, and support generational succession in a strategically important sector. It also includes a specific measure to encourage women's entry into fishing activities, offering an additional 2,000 euros for tutoring, maintenance, and follow-up if the intern is female.
Fishing companies will receive 2,000 euros per student as a gratuity to be paid upon completion of the internship. Aid of up to 3,600 euros is also available for Social Security contributions and expenses related to the student's tutoring, maintenance, and supervision. Additionally, companies will be granted 250 euros to cover equipment and work clothing costs, bringing the total aid per student to a maximum of 5,850 euros.
To qualify for the aid, beneficiary companies must guarantee the necessary conditions for the student's stay on board, provide adequate resources and equipment, and oversee the internship. Applications will be accepted for one month, starting the day after the announcement is published in the Official Gazette of the Basque Country.
