The town of Errenteria has received dual recognition at the European Commission's 2026 Inclusion and Diversity Awards. The awards ceremony took place this Wednesday in Brussels, where local representatives learned of the two accolades received.
Firstly, Errenteria was awarded first prize in the category for local entities with fewer than 50,000 inhabitants. This acknowledgment highlights the welcoming approach of the Errenteria City Council towards new residents, emphasizing its dedication to ensuring basic rights and full citizenship for all. In this regard, special mention was made of the new GU Harreragunea service.
Furthermore, the European Commission also recognized the municipality's efforts in promoting an inclusive labor market. This section considered explicit initiatives such as the homologation of qualifications to facilitate job placement in skilled sectors, as well as the work to dignify caregiving roles.
“"These awards not only recognize the work of the City Council but also that carried out by all residents of Errenteria. Therefore, these awards must also be celebrated with them."
Municipal representatives, who traveled to Brussels, expressed great satisfaction with these recognitions in the field of diversity and inclusion, which underscore Errenteria's historical vocation for welcoming others. For this reason, the council encourages all citizens, stakeholders, and partners to continue working in the same direction to collectively build coexistence.
