The Donostia International Physics Center (DIPC) concludes its 2026 summer internship program with the highest number of applications ever recorded.

The Donostia International Physics Center (DIPC) has concluded its summer internship program, achieving a record number of applications in 2026. This initiative, aimed at undergraduate and master's students, received 334 applications for fewer than 25 available positions. Over a third of these applications originated from international universities.
Established in 2016, the DIPC internship program has seen consistent year-on-year growth, accumulating a total of 1,690 applications and 155 students who have successfully completed research stays at the center.
The program provides students with an exceptional opportunity to gain firsthand experience in the world of research and the working environment of a cutting-edge scientific institution. These paid internships can be undertaken during the summer or throughout the academic year. Each year, projects are proposed in fields such as nanoscience, physics, chemistry, and computational science, supervised by researchers from the DIPC and the Supercomputing Center.
This year's edition also stands out for its international scope. Of the 334 applications received, 229 (69%) came from Spanish universities, while 75 (22%) were from universities within the European Union and 30 (9%) from outside the EU.
While the number of available positions remains relatively stable (around 25 students annually), the significant increase in applications underscores the growing interest in the training and research initiation opportunities offered by the DIPC.
