Members of Buruntzaldea IKT, Oier Perez, Iraia Gonzalez, and Leire Lopez, took part in the Gipuzkoa School Championship held in Zumaia on the 17th. The young athletes competed in four events: 50 meters butterfly and breaststroke, and 100 meters backstroke and freestyle. Perez and Lopez improved their personal bests in all their events, while Gonzalez achieved a significant improvement in the 100 meters freestyle.
In this competition, Perez won the silver medal in the 100 meters breaststroke event, and Lopez finished in sixth place in the 100 meters backstroke, thanks to their achieved times.
A week earlier, at the Paco Yoldi swimming pool in Donostia, teammates Amaiur Iparragirre and Lier Garmendia competed in the Gipuzkoa Spring Trophy. Iparragirre set a personal best in the 50 meters freestyle (28.83 seconds), and Garmendia also achieved significant improvements in all his events: 50m freestyle (29.35), 50m backstroke (34.80), 100m freestyle (01:04.63), and 50m butterfly (32.13).
At the end of April, the Alevin and Benjamin categories held their final league and meet day at the sports center in Hernani. Here, teammates Urko Azpiazu and Nora Becerra also participated. Becerra improved in the 100 meters individual medley event, and Azpiazu achieved an excellent time in the 100 meters breaststroke. Both also competed in the 50 meters freestyle event.
For the Benjamin swimmers, the final session involved challenging and long races: the youngest in the 100 meters individual medley; Leire Lopez and Alaia Iparragirre, in the 200 meters individual medley; and Oier Perez, in the 200 meters freestyle. All swimmers completed 25-meter sets of flutter kick, and the event concluded with a 4x50 meters medley relay.
The swimming team officials are pleased with the improvement and development of all the swimmers. They will all have their next appointment on the 30th at the Lasarte-Oria Trophy.
