The municipality of Astigarraga is demanding attention to urgent educational needs due to the delay in the construction of the future secondary school.

The DBH Orain platform in Astigarraga has publicly denounced the accumulated delay in the works for the future Compulsory Secondary Education center and has requested the Basque Government to accelerate the administrative process.
The City Council of Astigarraga ceded the land intended for the construction of the center in July 2021, with the aim of "responding to a historical need of the municipality." Currently, students, after finishing primary education, are forced to continue their studies outside the town.
"This situation is particularly striking considering the characteristics of Astigarraga: it has almost 8,000 inhabitants and one of the highest birth rates in the Basque Autonomous Community, which makes future educational needs even more evident," they point out. In fact, each primary education year has an average of 75 students distributed across four lines, and the delay in the construction of the secondary school represents a "direct loss year after year for these generations." Furthermore, this student volume shows great stability, as it does not respond to a specific peak but to a sustained trend over time.
With the aim of promoting the start of the works, the DBH Orain platform has launched various initiatives. Among them, this Tuesday it brought a motion to the Municipal Plenary to urge the Basque Government to activate the public tender for the award of the works as soon as possible.
Likewise, the awareness campaign in the municipality is being reactivated, filling the streets again with posters and t-shirts that claim the need for a Secondary Education center in Astigarraga. In this regard, a call was made to all citizens to participate in a massive photo that was held on Friday at 4:30 PM in the schoolyard, attending with a green t-shirt. Many people came to take part in the mobilization. It should be remembered that in the past, similar mobilizations have already occurred.
The DBH Orain platform has emphasized that this project is "priority" for the municipality and has called on all involved administrations to act "responsibly and urgently."
