Various improvement actions have been carried out in recent months around the Urkulu reservoir, in Aretxabaleta, with the goal of increasing safety, accessibility, and comfort for its users.

The completed works include the conditioning of the bidegorri surface ascending from Bañuetxe, the removal of dilapidated fences surrounding the reservoir to widen some path sections, and the renewal of urban furniture, replacing picnic tables and refurbishing benches along the route.

"Urkulu is considered a space of special value, both for resident population and for those who visit the municipality."

The Aretxabaleta City Council emphasizes that Urkulu is a popular meeting and leisure point, used by people of all ages for walking, sports, or enjoying nature, highlighting its role in social dynamics and its importance for the third sector.
For a new phase of interventions, plans include continuing the cleaning of the reservoir's perimeter path, adapting banks and ditches, and renewing signage. Additionally, the path descending from Otala Zelai will be repaired, while the Azatza bridge has already been fully repaired and is back in service.
This set of improvements represents a total investment of 126,700 euros (153,400 euros including VAT), as reported by the Council.
