Eight parents from Elkar Hezi and Urgain schools volunteered to participate. Although the program was initially planned to take place at the schools, scheduling conflicts led to both groups convening at the Municipal Euskaltegi. One group attends from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM, and the other from 2:30 PM to 4:30 PM. Another group is expected to be formed at the school next year.
The parents are learning Basque from scratch, without the primary goal of obtaining a certificate. The "Etorri euskarara!" program is based on a methodology tailored to parents' needs, providing resources to support their children's learning process. They cover topics such as numbers, spatial concepts, colors, and mathematical terms, always starting from the basics.
They began in October and will attend classes twice a week until June, completing a course of approximately 130 hours. The initiative aims to offer parents the opportunity to learn basic Basque words and, simultaneously, to value the language, as it is essential for children to see and follow a pro-Basque discourse or attitude at home.
UEMA first offered the "Etorri euskarara!" courses around May of last year. An interest in forming such a group at Elkar Hezi school was expressed, but it was not possible due to difficulties in coordinating schedules. This year, two parent groups are learning Basque together. These Basque courses are free of charge.
