The Eibar City Council has installed two new pétanque courts, suitable for official competition, in Torrekua park. The courts measure 4 meters wide by 15 meters long and were created by utilizing and improving an existing leisure and gathering area.
The intervention involved an investment of 19,906.38 euros. The objective was to adapt the space for pétanque practice while maintaining its open and accessible character. Both courts are fully accessible and have been integrated into the existing environment, making use of the shaded areas and benches already present in the park.
This new space allows for the combination of sports practice with staying and socializing, offering a place where users can play, rest, and spend time together.
The initiative arose from a request made to the council by users of the area following the inauguration of the Torrekua social center.
“"After the inauguration of the Torrekua social center, some of the building's users suggested the possibility of setting up pétanque courts in this space. We thought it was a magnificent idea because it responded to a specific request and, moreover, it allowed us to utilize an area that already existed in the park."
The mayor highlighted that the action seeks to "continue improving the public spaces in our neighborhoods and adapt them to the needs and proposals that the people who use them convey to us".

We wanted these courts not only to be a place for practicing sports but also a new meeting point for the neighborhood's residents. Furthermore, we were able to take advantage of the existing shade and benches, making the space comfortable and pleasant for spending some time."
The work in Torrekua is completed with the painting of the park's seats, an intervention that contributes to renewing and improving the existing furniture and the entire space.
With these new facilities, Torrekua park incorporates a new hub for activity and meeting, enhancing a space already used for staying and leisure and adapting it to the demands of its users.
