According to the Department of Security, a 33-year-old man was held against his will in a home in Bergara's Old Town to demand payment for an alleged debt.
The Ertzaintza became aware of the incident around 6:30 PM when two individuals went to the Deba-Urola police station and reported the situation. Officers found four people inside; one of the men had a head injury and was taken to the hospital in Arrasate.
The victim told the police that he had been in the residence against his will since the previous day. He stated that the alleged assailants found him on the street and ordered him to go with them to a house to settle a debt. Once inside, they confiscated his house keys and his documentation, as well as his mother's, while demanding money.
One of the alleged attackers even went with the victim to the residence where his mother was admitted, to force her to go to the bank and pay the debt. As the payment was not made, the man was taken back to the Bergara residence.
The Ertzaintza arrested a 37-year-old woman and two men, aged 30 and 31, at the scene, on charges of extortion and illegal detention. After completing the proceedings, they will be brought before a judge.
