The renovation of the sports flooring on the main court of the Ipurua Sports Center in Eibar has attracted significant interest from specialized companies. A total of seven firms have entered the bidding process opened by the Eibar City Council for this priority project, aimed at improving one of the city's most heavily used sports facilities. The project has a base budget of 224,995.17 euros.
This initiative will replace a floor that has reached the end of its lifespan after many years of intense use. The main court at Ipurua hosts daily training sessions, competitions, and activities organized by various local sports entities. Clubs such as Eibar Eskubaloia, the Club de Gimnasia Rítmica Ipurua, and Eibar Saskibaloia had previously informed the council of the need to renovate the flooring to enhance the facility's usability.
The current sports surface shows the wear and tear typical of a court subjected to continuous use over the years. Its replacement will improve athlete safety, training quality, and technical performance for competitions. Additionally, before the new parquet is installed, the ceiling beams of the central court will be cleaned, an ancillary task with a budget of 17,424 euros.
The municipal plan is to carry out the works during the summer period, coinciding with the end of the training and competition seasons to minimize disruption to clubs, athletes, and users. Eibar's mayor, Jon Iraola, highlighted that the seven bids reflect the project's appeal to companies in the sector, emphasizing its importance for modernizing a key sports facility and addressing the clubs' demands.
The Councilor for Sports, Andoni Ameztoy, stressed the constant year-round activity on the central court and stated that the new floor will provide better conditions for training and competitions, while also increasing user comfort and safety. Once the bid evaluation and awarding process is complete, the City Council will finalize the definitive work schedule.
