The children of Deba enjoyed their special day with various activities. The morning featured a run of small bulls and inflatable attractions, while the afternoon offered water games and parades.
At noon, following tradition, babies born between August 1, 2025, and July 31, 2026, were welcomed in the Town Hall's plenary hall. Many parents attended with their newborns and were greeted by Mayor Alazne Txurruka and council members.
Txurruka explained that this annual reception presents newborns with the traditional red festival scarf and a parchment. After an emotional speech, members of the council began placing the scarves on the babies, accompanied by the sound of an accordion.
Parents expressed deep emotion seeing their children with the red scarf, stating, "it's an initiative with a very beautiful meaning in our town." Afterward, they gathered on the town hall balconies to take photos, immortalizing the moment.
In the afternoon, a parade of dancers, drummers, pandero players, and small giants took place, culminating in the main event in the square. Approximately 150 children participated in the drum parade.
Sunday, the main day of the San Roque festivities, will feature the traditional offering, the ezpata-dantza (sword dance), high mass, the aurresku dance, children's games, a bertsolari (improvised poet) session, and fireworks.
