The Eibar Local Energy Community (TEK Eibar), in collaboration with the Eibar City Council, has opened the final 90 places to complete the installation's capacity, having already reached over 200 members and associated businesses. The initiative aims to consolidate and expand its energy community.
The energy community is organizing informational sessions at the Coliseo and Errebal venues, as well as an online meeting specifically for the commercial sector. Current members will benefit from three months of free membership for each new member they bring into the project.
TEK Eibar, initially promoted by the Eibar City Council, was designed to foster collective self-consumption of 100% renewable, local energy (km 0) within the municipality. The council maintains its active involvement as a partner, providing the use of 1,093 m² across three municipal rooftops: Portalea Kultur Etxea, Arrateko Andra Mari Ikastetxea, and Amaña Eskola.
Eva Juez Garmendia, the Councilor for the Environment, highlights that the project is "the result of a public-private collaboration model between the council and the residents." The City Council led the launch and supports the community's growth and management.
Eibar's Mayor, Jon Iraola, emphasized the importance of increasing citizen participation: "Reaching 200 members shows there is interest in moving towards a more accessible and sustainable energy model." The goal is for more Eibar families and businesses to benefit from locally generated renewable energy, directly impacting their electricity bills.
Since its activation in late 2024, TEK Eibar has provided citizens with a photovoltaic infrastructure of 164 kW capacity, consisting of 364 solar panels on the aforementioned municipal roofs, to reduce the carbon footprint and electricity bills without requiring home installations.
Informational talks have been scheduled to address queries and facilitate registration: on November 9th (1:30 PM) an online session for businesses; on November 10th (6:30 PM) an in-person talk at the Teatro Coliseo; and on November 12th (12:00 PM) another in-person talk at Errebal.
The "Promo Amigo" campaign rewards community involvement. Each member who recommends the project to an acquaintance will receive 3 months of free membership for every new referral, a benefit that also extends to the invited person. A maximum of four friends can be recommended.
