The initiative will consist of four uninterrupted hours of calls, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, during which seniors will be contacted to offer them companionship, conversation, and a listening ear. The goal is to reach those who may need this service and help combat a reality that often remains invisible.
Eibar's mayor, Jon Iraola, highlighted the importance of collaboration between institutions, companies, and social agents to address this challenge. "Unwanted loneliness is a reality that challenges us as a society. From the City Council, we want to contribute to Eibar continuing to be a caring and committed city, where people feel accompanied and cared for. Initiatives like this show that, by working together, we can reach those who need it most."
For her part, the councilor for Social Services and Seniors, Sonia Archeli, emphasized the value of companionship. "Sometimes, something as simple as a phone call can change a person's day. 'Hilo de Plata' offers a space for conversation, listening, and companionship to seniors experiencing loneliness. We also want to encourage citizens to get involved, as we can all help detect these situations in our own communities."
Under the slogan "There are calls that change your life," the event also seeks citizen involvement. Therefore, those who know an elderly person who might be experiencing unwanted loneliness are encouraged to inform the service, so that they can contact them and offer support.
