As every year, the Poets in May festival will bring the world of poetry closer to the citizens of Álava. This year's edition features a rich list of international and local artists, ensuring a diverse cultural offering.
The festival's management has emphasized that this initiative involves citizens, institutions, cultural associations, schools, and businesses, transforming poetry into a meeting point and shared expression. In this way, citizens are given a voice, and their stories and emotions are brought together.
“"Giving a voice to citizens and uniting their stories and emotions."
Furthermore, the festival will demonstrate a strong social commitment this year, collaborating with nearly twenty social organizations and hospitals. Among the special initiatives, a solidarity market with poets' clothing and the Bertso sorginduak sessions stand out. A space will also be dedicated to historical memory on May 24, with a poetic route to commemorate the March 3 massacre.
Young people and the educational community will also play a special role. Students from various schools in Vitoria-Gasteiz will spread messages against war and in favor of peace through lyrical journeys. Activities that have become a symbol of the festival will return, such as the Poetic Act for Peace in the Plaza Nueva and the Crystal Pages, which will adorn shop windows with literature.
The Poets in May festival will extend to several Alavese towns, including Amurrio, Agurain, Campezo, and Burgu. All information and details of the events can be consulted on the official website of the festival.
