The associations Salhaketa and Katearen Loturak have organized a mobilization for Friday, April 13, in Vitoria-Gasteiz's Plaza de la Virgen Blanca, to denounce deaths occurring in Zaballa prison and the situation of inmates.

The main objective of the rally is to denounce the recent death of a young man from Llodio in Zaballa prison. According to the associations, in recent times "particularly serious incidents have occurred in different prisons in Southern Euskal Herria," including the deaths of three inmates: two young people in Zaballa and an 80-year-old person in Pamplona.
For the associations, the core of the problem lies in the fact that most inmates suffer from dual pathology, meaning they simultaneously experience mental health and addiction issues. Aiaraldea Komunikabideak asked Salhaketa if this was the situation for the young man from Llodio, but the association has no data to confirm it. However, they have called for attention to the general situation, emphasizing that 70% of inmates have dual pathology.

The prison system is de facto functioning as a substitute resource for non-existent or insufficient health and social services.

The associations have stressed that the deaths occurring in recent months are not isolated cases but reveal a structural problem. Therefore, they have demanded the intervention of the Ararteko to investigate the facts, evaluate the situation of people with dual pathology in prison, and promote urgent measures to guarantee comprehensive and continuous care in a drug-free environment.
