The renovation project for the area surrounding Jesús Guridi Square in Laudio's Latiorro neighborhood is once again at the center of municipal political debate due to the visible lack of progress by the EH Bildu governing team.

The PNV has denounced the lack of visible progress by the EH Bildu governing team on the renovation project for the area surrounding Jesús Guridi Square in the Latiorro neighborhood of Laudio. According to the PNV, despite announcements made over recent years and public commitments, the City Council has yet to officially present the definitive project or a clear execution calendar.
PNV spokesperson Ander Añibarro recalled that this initiative began during the 2019-2023 term under the PNV mayorship, when the City Council awarded a company in October 2022 the task of drafting the basic and execution project for the urbanization of the Jesús Guridi area.
“It was an important and highly demanded initiative by the residents of Latiorro, designed to improve accessibility, lighting, sidewalks, sanitation, green spaces, and mobility in the area,” he stated.
As explained by the PNV, the preliminary project containing the core ideas was already drafted during the previous term, with the intention of being reviewed with residents to gather input before the 2023 municipal elections. However, the process was halted with the change of government from PNV to EH Bildu, and since then, the situation has seen little advancement.
The jeltzale formation also recalls that EH Bildu has conducted various participatory processes and meetings with neighborhood residents during this term, raising expectations for an initiative that remains unmaterialized.
“There has been much talk about the project, citizens have been convened, and the idea that work was progressing has been conveyed, but the reality is that three years later we still do not publicly know the definitive content of the project or the real deadlines for its execution,” lamented Añibarro.
The PNV also reminds that in October 2024, it publicly urged the municipal government of Gastaka to comply with the plenary agreement approved months earlier to reactivate this action and convene a specific commission with the affected neighborhood communities. “The worrying thing is that time continues to pass and the neighborhood continues waiting for concrete answers,” he added.
The PNV spokesperson explained that in recent municipal commissions, the governing team mentioned the existence of a draft (the 2025 municipal budget reserved a sum of 18,150 euros for drafting the project) and assured that technical improvements were being made before its presentation, although to date, neither opposition groups nor the residents themselves have been able to access the document.
“We find ourselves once again facing a management style based more on announcements than on facts. Lots of participation, many promises, and little real execution,” stated Añibarro.
The PNV considers that the situation reflects “a clear lack of planning and leadership” by the EH Bildu municipal government. “Latiorro cannot continue accumulating delays on a project that the City Council itself promotes as a priority. The residents deserve transparency, certainty, and a real commitment to improving their neighborhood,” Añibarro pointed out.
Finally, the PNV reiterated its commitment to the Jesús Guridi area and to the demands historically conveyed by the neighborhood residents. “The PNV will continue to advocate for this project to move forward and ensure it is not buried among unfulfilled promises and unproductive participatory processes that only seek a photo opportunity. Laudio needs less propaganda and more management,” he concluded.
