According to Ainize Gastaka, Mayor of Laudio, in an interview on the Azalera podcast, construction work for more than 80 social housing units in Goikoplaza is about to commence. The City Council ceded the land to the Basque Government for this project, and the works are expected to be completed within 14 months.
The mayor explained that the area was cleared on Friday and has already been fenced. The construction of these new homes will lead to the disappearance of numerous parking spaces in the town center, but Gastaka noted that a new parking area will open in Latiorro within a month.
The new Latiorro car park will be connected to the new outpatient clinic and will always be free. Although initially there will be no time limit, the City Council will study the type of movement it generates and will decide whether to restrict usage hours to prioritize those attending the public health system.
Furthermore, Gastaka stated that the request from Ugarte residents to cover the football field is not feasible, as the URA Agency has prohibited the installation of a roof. The mayor expressed regret, as the space could have been used for community activities.
Finally, the mayor of Laudio announced that before the end of the year, the City Council will remove the 20 metal tables located in Apaloeta. This decision was made because residents have indicated that these tables are dangerous for children.
