“"To speak of vermouth in Amurrio is to speak of history. We are a family business that began its activity in Bilbao in 1831 and settled in Amurrio in 1881. We preserve very old recipes, some dating back to 1883, and we have managed to adapt them to current tastes and consumption patterns without losing their essence."

The Amurrio City Council has presented Vermouth Day, named Vermuteke, a new initiative to be held for the first time on May 24th, aiming to turn the municipality into a meeting point for vermouth lovers and local gastronomic culture.
This initiative seeks to consolidate an annual event that combines tradition, economic promotion, and social revitalization, focusing on a product deeply rooted in the municipality's history and identity. Amurrio is home to the only two companies in Euskadi dedicated to vermouth production: Destilerías Acha and Licores Barañano.
The day will offer a comprehensive program with live music, gastronomic proposals made with local products, and a festive atmosphere designed for all audiences. Highlighted activities include the opportunity to taste the seven vermouths produced by both distilleries, as well as the celebration of the 1st Prepared Marianito Championship, which will test creativity and expertise around this classic aperitif.
The representative of Licores Barañano emphasized the emotional and family component of the project: “We are the fifth generation of a family dedicated to the production of liqueurs and vermouths. We work from Amurrio with great affection for the product and the environment, incorporating new proposals while maintaining our tradition and identity.”
The Mayor of Amurrio highlighted the uniqueness of the municipality, pointing out that Euskadi has only these two producing firms, both located in Amurrio, which reinforces the municipality's role as a benchmark in vermouth culture in Euskal Herria.
