The ELA union has announced an indefinite strike in the waste collection service for the towns within the Aiaraldea region (Laudio, Amurrio, Artziniega, Okondo, and Aiara), starting on July 20.

The union stated that this decision was made after the awarded company, Prezero, presented an "insufficient" proposal for the renewal of the collective agreement. Consequently, the eleven permanent workers have agreed to join the indefinite strike.
The primary reason for the strike is the company's refusal to link salary increases to the CPI (Consumer Price Index). Prezero's latest proposal forecasts a 2% salary increase for 2026 and 2027, without using the CPI as a reference. The union emphasizes that this would lead to a permanent loss of purchasing power for the workers.
ELA has indicated that they will maintain their mobilization "until the company and the Aiaraldea region change their stance and present a proposal that addresses the workers' demands".
