Aiaraldea Celebrates San Prudencio Festivities from April 24 to 28 with Diverse Program

The municipality of Ayala, located in the Aiaraldea region, is set to host the San Prudencio festivities from April 24 to 28, offering a comprehensive program that blends tradition, culture, and leisure for all ages.

The festivities of San Prudencio, the patron saint of the province, will extend this year to the municipality of Ayala, within the Aiaraldea region. A broad program of activities is scheduled between April 24 and 28. The festive agenda will commence on Friday, April 24, at 6:45 PM with the reading of the opening speech.
Following the speech, the txupin (firecracker) will be lit in front of the Town Hall in Respaldiza, accompanied by Prontxi, the festival mascot and a symbol of the Basque language and equality. Members of the Aiara Dantza Taldea, who were the heralds in 2024, will also participate with their dances, alongside an elektrotxaranga. The evening will continue with a concert by Jonkass at 10:00 PM and conclude with a session by DJ Blessive.
Saturday, April 25, will be dedicated to sports and family activities. At 11:00 AM, the Jesús Isasi Memorial cycling race will take place for cadet category. Between 11:30 AM and 2:00 PM, there will be inflatables, intergenerational games, and workshops organized by the AMPA of Etxaurren Ikastola. In the afternoon, at 5:00 PM, the itinerant show Euskal Jaia: Barre bidean will arrive, followed by a concert at 7:30 PM featuring the choirs Bleibet from Artziniega, Ipar-Alde from Derio, and Luis Irurriaga from Igorre. The night will close with the romería (pilgrimage) of Gautegun and a session by DJ Sospechoso de Spam starting at 10:00 PM.
Sunday, April 26, will begin at 12:00 PM with women's rural sports and the bowling championship in Quejana. At 1:00 PM, mass will be celebrated, and at 2:30 PM, there will be a meal and dances for people over 65 at the Oleta restaurant in Luiaondo. In the afternoon, at 6:00 PM, the bowling tournament final will be played, and at 8:00 PM, the monologue “La vida moderna” with Rakel Molina will arrive at Respaldiza square. A verbena (open-air dance) with Joselu Anayak will conclude this third day. On Monday, April 27, only the film “Las invisibles” will be screened at 6:00 PM in the plenary hall.
The festive closing, on Tuesday, April 28, San Prudencio's Day, will be intense. At 11:00 AM, a market of local products will open, followed at 12:00 PM by the traditional tamborrada with students from Etxaurren Ikastola. At 12:30 PM, there will be a children's workshop to decorate aprons with Prontxi's image, and at 1:00 PM, mass will be officiated. In the afternoon, at 7:00 PM, a romería with Patxi Pérez will take place, culminating with a morcillada (blood sausage tasting).
Other municipalities in the Ayala Valley will also commemorate the patron saint. The Recreational Cultural and Gastronomic Society Rakataplá in Laudio will organize inflatables, wooden games, music, and Basque dances on Sunday, April 26, and a traditional tamborrada on Monday, April 27. Amurrio will hold its tamborrada parade and snail tasting on Monday, April 27. On Tuesday, April 28, Artziniega and Okondo will have masses, meals, and musical activities. The small town of Menoio will celebrate San Marcos on April 24 and 25 with a txupinazo, fireworks, and a lamb raffle.
