“"It is satisfying to see how this long-term project is progressing and beginning to become a reality. The initiative creates tangible opportunities for people to stay in the town, in the region, and develop their life project here. We will continue working with enthusiasm in that direction."

The Mendata City Council has achieved a significant milestone in its urban and social development strategy by awarding the first ten publicly protected homes (VPP) to be located in the Elexalde area, providing affordable housing solutions for local youth.
This initiative, considered one of the most ambitious commitments of the current legislature, aims to offer real and affordable housing solutions so that residents, especially young people, can develop their life projects without being forced to leave their hometown.
This first phase of the housing plan, which collectively envisages the construction of 23 homes, is a direct response to the demand identified in the municipality. The intervention is structured into two blocks of five units each, designed under strict criteria of functionality and comfort. According to the technical project, each home will have its corresponding storage room and parking space, in addition to independent external access and private garden areas. A relevant aspect of the design is its architectural integration, as the layout has been adapted to the natural slope of the land in Elexalde, also ensuring universal accessibility and high energy efficiency.
The profile of the beneficiaries confirms the success of the call: they are mostly people linked to the region with a strong presence of young individuals. This data is key for the council, which sees this project as an essential tool to rejuvenate the population and prevent exodus to larger urban centers. By facilitating access to a first home, Mendata not only retains population but also ensures the future vitality of its community.
The path to this point has required extensive administrative and financial management. The origin of the action dates back five years, when the City Council acquired the land. Since then, sanitation works and technical coordination efforts have followed, including the drafting of the project by the local institution and the promotion of a managing cooperative to make the operation viable.
With the reparcelling phase currently underway, municipal forecasts indicate that the development will begin after the summer period. Once the machinery starts working, an execution period of between 18 and 24 months is estimated for the final delivery of the keys. In addition to the construction of the blocks, the City Council will undertake the urbanization works of the area, providing the Elexalde environment with all necessary services and infrastructure.
