Residents of Lasarte-Oria, both those with Andalusian roots and locals, enjoyed the traditional pilgrimage organized by the Semblante Andaluz association on Sunday. The event, as every year, had the support of the City Council.
Vibrant flamenco dresses, colorful shawls, combs, and medals of the Virgin competed for attention with the high temperatures of the day. One participant joked that they felt «as if we were in Huelva, but without the sand or dust».
The day included the traditional Rocío mass at the church of Nuestra Señora de Arantzazu, with the participation of Semblante Rociero. Afterwards, carrying the image of the Virgin, participants walked the path to Atsobakar. They made a stop at the convent of the Brígida nuns.
The festivities continued in Atsobakar, where after a toast with authorities and guests, a popular meal and performances marked the end of the event.
The event served as an opportunity for many residents of Lasarte-Oria, who feel a connection to Andalusia, to feel «a little closer to their roots». Among them, Marijo Rosco, a member of the association, shared her experience, discussing her passion for flamenco and the Rocío pilgrimage.
