The heatwave persisted in Euskadi this Sunday, with thermometers exceeding 30 degrees Celsius in several locations. However, fewer municipalities recorded maximums above the 35 degrees Celsius seen on Saturday, such as in Bergara (Gipuzkoa), Iurreta (Bizkaia), and Llodio (Álava).
In Álava, nearly all towns experienced temperatures above 30 degrees. In Gipuzkoa, most municipalities also stayed above this mark, with the highest temperature recorded at the San Prudentzio station in Bergara, reaching 35.7 degrees Celsius. Other locations with high temperatures included Beasain (34.2), Arrasate (34.2), Urkulu (34.1), Alegia (33.9), and Oñati (33.8).
In Bizkaia, according to Euskalmet data collected until 5:00 PM, the majority of municipalities exceeded 30 degrees Celsius. Iurreta recorded the highest temperature at 35.3 degrees Celsius at the Berna station. Other locations close to this value were Zalla (34.5), Igorre (34.2), Elorrio (34.1), Balmaseda (34), and Galdakao (34).
Euskalmet maintained the yellow alert, active until 8:00 PM this Sunday. Cumulus clouds are expected to develop in the afternoon, with a possibility of some storms, particularly inland, accompanied by gusty winds. The southerly wind from the morning will shift to northerly in the afternoon and westerly by the end of the day along the coast.
A respite is expected on Monday, with a decrease in maximum temperatures and some stormy showers predicted for the afternoon, especially in the southern half of Euskadi. For instance, in San Sebastián, temperatures will range between 18 and 24 degrees Celsius, in Vitoria between 11 and 30, and in Bilbao between 19 and 28.
