The Gernika-Lumo City Council has approved the grant call for the 2025-2026 academic year, aimed at promoting Euskera learning and improvement, undertaking university courses in the language, and obtaining a driving license through exams in Euskera.

The application period will remain open until November 30th. The call covers activities undertaken between October 2025 and September 2026 and is part of the municipal measures for Euskera promotion planned for the 2023-2027 period.
Beneficiaries include individuals registered in Gernika-Lumo. Employees and members of companies, businesses, and associations that have signed the HITZARGUNE agreement can also apply, even if not registered in the municipality. Additionally, grandparents of students enrolled in schools belonging to the Municipal School Council are eligible.
For the driving license modality, applicants must be registered residents over 16 years old for car licenses and over 14 years old for moped licenses.
The call includes three modalities: Euskera learning and improvement courses (at HABE-certified centers), university courses entirely in Euskera (during summer or holidays), and taking driving license exams in Euskera. Euskera course grants can reach up to 600 euros per course (maximum 900 euros per person/year). For C2 level students, the maximum is 500 euros. Residential courses (barnetegi) may also receive accommodation grants of up to 400 euros.
Regarding driving licenses, grants of 80 euros are available for each theoretical and practical exam for car licenses taken in Euskera on the first attempt. For the second attempt, the amount is 40 euros per test. For motorcycle and moped licenses, a grant of 50 euros is established.
Applications must be addressed to the Mayor of Gernika-Lumo and submitted with the necessary documentation to justify the subsidized activity and prove compliance with the requirements.
Through this initiative, the City Council continues to promote measures to facilitate Euskera learning and improvement, reduce the economic cost of training, and encourage its use in academic, professional, and daily life. Interested parties can consult the full bases for specific conditions and required documentation.
