The new regulation aims to balance port operations with the daily life of Bermeo. Shipbuilding activities will be relocated from the Varadero quay to areas further away from residential zones to reduce urban impact.
The freed space will host a public management building for commercial and hospitality services. Additionally, the plan allows for more flexible use of buildings at Frantxua quay and includes provisions for a cold storage plant and a dry marina at Matxikorta quay.
This transformation is intended to strengthen the port's role as an economic driver for the Urdaibai region, fostering sectors such as logistics, recreational boating, and tourism through sustainable development.
