The Bermeo City Council has today commenced renovation works on Arostegi street and the sidewalk in front of the Town Hall, aiming to enhance the appeal, accessibility, and functionality of the Historic Quarter.

This initiative is part of the plan for the beautification and recovery of the Historic Quarter, with the primary goal of transforming this area into a more attractive, accessible, and functional space. The recently started works are designed to improve accessibility by removing architectural barriers, refresh the urban image, and facilitate cleaning and maintenance tasks.
To achieve this, the road and sidewalk levels will be unified, creating a single platform that will improve pedestrian flow. Additionally, the project includes the installation of a special “V”-shaped granite piece for rainwater collection, as well as the progressive underground channeling of service infrastructures, particularly electricity, telecommunications, and public lighting networks.
The construction will be carried out in three distinct phases. The first phase will focus on the section between Goiko Plaza and Talaranzko street, diverting traffic over the bridge towards Lamera. Subsequently, the section between Talaranzko street and the bridge will be addressed, which will be closed to traffic, requiring vehicles to take the route towards Nardiz tar Jon street. Finally, work will be done on the sidewalk in front of the Town Hall. The entire project is expected to conclude by the end of May.
This project is funded by European Next Generation funds and will be executed by the company Estudios y Obras Rekalde SL, with a budget of 212,542.10 euros (VAT included).

"We thank the residents in advance for their understanding and cooperation regarding an action that will significantly contribute to the improvement of the municipality."
