The PSE of Santurtzi has submitted a motion for debate in the upcoming plenary session concerning the critical state of the San Juan social center. This building, a former school, has been utilized by neighborhood associations for three decades and now requires «urgent action», according to the socialist party. The aim is to urge the governing team (PNV) to restore the space and guarantee dignified conditions for its use.
As residents of the neighborhood reported a month ago, the building shows significant deterioration: detachments in the downspouts, widespread leaks, and filtrations from the roof affecting the interior of the classrooms. This situation not only hinders the development of activities but also «poses a safety risk», as emphasized by the socialist group. Therefore, they are requesting the «urgent preparation» of a technical study to determine the building's actual condition, the drafting of a comprehensive rehabilitation project, and the «immediate execution» of necessary actions to ensure the safety of the associations.

The City Council halted all activities in the building due to its deterioration and has relocated the associations to various other spaces so they can continue their programs. Meanwhile, technicians are preparing a comprehensive report on the building's condition, required actions, execution timelines, and investment. The governing team has indicated that on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, neighborhood groups were informed that a meeting with technical staff would take place on Thursday to «analyze the detailed report prepared by the Built Heritage area and thus evaluate the proposed timelines and options».
