Organized by the Chair of Scientific Culture of the UPV/EHU, the Bilbao Science Plaza (BZP) festival will promote science outreach in the city, filling it with talks, workshops, exhibitions, and scientific shows. This year, the innovation of Naukas Bilbao and the BZP Workshops are the main novelties.
The festival's program will take place in various venues across Bilbao, including the Bidebarrieta Library, Bizkaia Aretoa-UPV/EHU, Euskalduna Bilbao, the area in front of the Museum of Fine Arts, and the Guruzu Plaza space of the EDE Foundation. All activities will be free until full capacity, and some will require prior registration.
Naukas Bilbao, the leading science outreach show in the state, will debut a new format. From September 18 to 20, the Euskalduna Bilbao palace will host different activities: Naukas Gazte (for secondary school, baccalaureate, and vocational training students), Naukas Bilbao Start (for the general public), and Naukas Kids (for children). The Naukas Kids programming will also extend to Bizkaia Aretoa-UPV/EHU and its surroundings.
Activities aimed at children and families will be expanded this year with the new BZP Workshops initiative. Shows, workshops, theatrical performances, and competitions will be organized on September 24 (Thursday), September 26 (Saturday), and October 4 (Sunday), at Bizkaia Aretoa-UPV/EHU and the Guruzu Plaza space of the EDE Foundation.
The festival will begin on September 16 at the Bidebarrieta Library with the screening of the documentary Natura Bizia, followed by a discussion with the documentary's team. Within the Bidebarrieta Científica cycle, on September 30, biologist Beatriz Díaz will give a talk focused on entomology.
Insects will be the main protagonists of this year's edition. A talk-colloquium, two workshops, and the exhibition Insects. Everything they tell us have been organized, in collaboration with the Museum of Sciences of the University of Navarra. The exhibition will be on display from September 19 to October 4 at Bizkaia Aretoa-UPV/EHU, offering a journey to discover the extraordinary diversity of insects.
The exhibition has been designed from an inclusive and accessible perspective. It will conclude on October 4 with a workshop led by entomologist Sergi Romeu, where participants can get up close and touch the animals.
Bilbao Science Plaza (BZP) is a science outreach initiative organized by the Chair of Scientific Culture of the UPV/EHU, with the collaboration of the Euskampus Foundation and the sponsorship of the Bilbao City Council, the Department of Science, University and Innovation of the Basque Government, the Donostia International Physics Center (DIPC), EITB, and the Museum of Sciences of the University of Navarra.
