Irun's athlete, Nerea García, is embarking on a top-level international season with ambitious objectives, including the World Cup and European Championships.

The season promises to be intense for Nerea García, who will be competing at the highest international level with significant challenges. Following a strong start in the first two World Cups, her focus is now on the third event, scheduled for July 9-12 in Montreal, Canada. There, she and Carolina García aim to secure qualification for the World Championships, which will be held this year in Poznan, Poland.
Before heading across the Atlantic to Canada, they will participate in the European Championships in Montemor-o-Velho, Portugal, from June 11-14. While carrying less weight for World Championship qualification, this competition allows them to earn points for the international ranking, which will distribute Olympic berths in late summer 2027, in addition to awarding continental titles and medals.
The Spanish Championship, also crucial for the Federation's analysis, will take place in Trasona (Asturias) from July 30 to August 2. In the same location, in May 2028, a European Championship will be held, serving as a final repechage opportunity for continental boats that have not yet secured Olympic qualification, and it will also be decisive for the selection of canoeists the Spanish Federation will send to the Olympic Games that summer.
