Cristina Laborda, the mayor of Irun, has made it clear that she will not accept a negative response from the Basque Government regarding its refusal to implement traffic controls in Oiartzun to prevent road saturation in the city. At this Thursday's meeting, the mayor will demand clear solutions for the people of Irun: "If our proposal is not valid, they should put another one on the table, as that is their responsibility. Saying 'no' is not enough; they must say 'yes'."
Laborda was emphatic in stating that "there cannot be first and second-class citizens here." "It is unacceptable that people cannot reach the hospital or cannot leave or return to their homes. We are talking about basic services and the daily lives of thousands of people," she stressed.
The mayor has asked the Basque Government to exercise its corresponding leadership in traffic matters, particularly concerning the "Operation Return." "From Irun, we will continue to extend our hand and offer all our municipal resources, but each entity must assume its responsibilities. I ask the Basque Government to lead and to be at the level that Irun needs. We, the people of Irun, cannot and should not face this problem, which originates from outside, alone. Irun does not need excuses; it needs solutions."
