Irun will host the seventh edition of its Book Fair next week, featuring a new location in San Juan Square on April 22nd and 23rd, serving as a vibrant literary and musical gathering.

This year's edition brings a significant change: the relocation to San Juan Square, a departure from previous years when the marquee was set up in Ensanche Square. The Irun City Council explains that this new site leverages its proximity to other venues like the CBA, facilitating scheduled activities such as the Geltoki encounters and improvisation-focused jam sessions.
Key events include the Geltoki encounters, designed to offer a closer look at various literary figures. This year, author Jabier Muguruza will present his novel Kafe Mokka, inspired by Irun's Café Roma. The presentation is scheduled for next Wednesday at 7:00 PM. On Thursday at 8:00 PM, it will be the turn of Zuhaitz Gurrutxaga. Both events will be held at the CBA.
Additionally, two public readings will take place inside the CBA. For the Basque reading, Moebiusen Ertzak by Garazi Kamio has been selected, with Kamio opening the session. For the Spanish reading, the classic El Quijote will be featured. Throughout the fair, several authors will present their works, including Sarali by Julio Santos, Longevo, insumiso y traidor by Javier Gil, and for young audiences, No soy una bruja by Rosa Rubio. Poetry will also have its dedicated space with the presence of Josu Torres. The first day is reserved for local writers, who will personally sell their works.
Beyond literature, music will also play a significant role. On Wednesday, San Juan Square will host concerts by Hatxe and Eneritz Furyak. On Thursday, the music will move to the Municipal Library with a performance by the Ametsa Kimua Chamber Choir.
Illustrator Lorena Martínez has designed the poster for the seventh consecutive year, expressing gratitude for the creative freedom provided. She also created the illustrations for the novel Kafe Mokka. Collaborating entities for this Book Fair include the multidisciplinary cultural association UKKE from Irun, Tinta Cómics, and Elkar Liburudenda, all of whom will have stands in the marquee to sell graphic novels and books.
