Irun Hosts Opila Blessings and Prepares for San Marcial Festivities

Irun's parishes will hold traditional opila blessings on Saint Mark's Day, with the city council implementing safety and transport measures.

Parishes in Irun will host traditional opila blessings on Saint Mark's Day, with the city council implementing safety and transport measures, alongside recreational activities for public enjoyment.

The parishes of Irun will celebrate the traditional blessings of opilas on Saint Mark's Day. The events will take place throughout the morning in various churches: at 10:30 AM in Sagrada Familia; at 11:00 AM in Juncal, Pentecostés, and Santo Cristo de Artiga; at 11:30 AM in Behobia; and at 12:00 PM in the Hermitage of San Marcial.
The city council has activated a prevention plan for this day. A Local Police patrol will be present around San Marcial from 10:00 AM, and Civil Protection will remain in areas with high public attendance. Social Welfare will emphasize responsible alcohol consumption.
Additionally, the city council is organizing a free bus service to the fields of San Marcial and Guadalupe, specifically aimed at teenagers and young people. Buses will run every half hour, between 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM, and 4:00 PM and 8:00 PM, making stops in the city center (Paseo Colón, Hondarribia Street, and Avenida de Navarra).
In the afternoon, the Meaka Neighborhood Association has organized a recreational activity starting at 5:00 PM in the square where its headquarters are located. It will feature a performance by the clowns Kiki, Koko, and Moko, and bouncy castles will also be installed.
