This intervention will directly benefit Irun, as it is part of the Comprehensive Improvement Plan for the Bidasoa region, transforming the connections between both municipalities and ensuring more active, safe, and sustainable mobility for the residents of Irun.
One of the main advantages for the citizens of Irun will be the continuity and consolidation of the bicycle lane network. The project foresees the construction of a new two-way cycle path that will ensure the connection with Irun. This bike lane will directly link with the existing one that reaches the Letxunborro roundabout and with the section heading towards Amute, offering a protected and fully connected route.
Furthermore, the project will significantly improve pedestrian safety in this area near Irun. With over 13,000 vehicles passing through this 550-meter stretch daily, the new Amutalde bypass will take over the main traffic flow. This will allow for the pacification of the Mendelu road section, the widening of sidewalks on both sides, and the installation of new lighting and signage.
This transformation will create conditions for a more pleasant urban environment, reducing car traffic and achieving better coexistence between pedestrians, cyclists, and vehicles at the entrances and exits of Irun.
