The Irun City Council, in its ordinary July plenary session, has approved the Strategic Security and Coexistence Plan 2027-2030, a document whose mission is to make the city a safe and pleasant place, revitalizing citizen coexistence and guaranteeing the protection of its inhabitants.
Mayor Cristina Laborda stated, "My priority as mayor of Irun is the security of my city. Beyond being mayor, I am a resident of Irun, and I know that security is not just the absence of crime, but also about people being able to live their daily lives with peace of mind and confidence."
The mayor highlighted that the plan was built "from consensus, listening to citizens and all sectors, and contributing ideas to make this document plural and shared. Our objective is none other than to guarantee security so that the people of Irun can carry out their life projects in Irun."
For his part, the delegate for Security and Citizen Coexistence, Iñigo Berges, emphasized that the Plan promotes "a close, humane, and present Local Police; a city that understands coexistence as a shared responsibility; and an administration capable of coordinating to provide faster and more effective responses."
The Strategic Plan is structured around five thematic blocks leading to 11 specific areas of action and 24 specific measures. Its shared and participatory nature has been highlighted, with contributions from over 600 residents, representatives from the Ertzaintza and various municipal departments, and social agents.
The first axis focuses on the proximity-based Local Police model. The second aims to strengthen social cohesion, including vulnerable groups. The third seeks to improve citizen trust through communication and awareness, and the fourth focuses on the care of public space. The fifth axis will reinforce institutional coordination.
