Hondarribia has confirmed it will host a fan zone for the Copa del Rey Final, in collaboration with the Gipuzkoa Provincial Council, to watch the match between Real Sociedad and Atlético de Madrid, aiming to bring the sporting celebration closer to its citizens.

Hondarribia will be one of five municipalities, alongside the Gipuzkoa Provincial Council, to organize a fan zone on April 18, the day of the Copa del Rey Final. This initiative aims to bring the atmosphere of the sporting event to various towns in Gipuzkoa and create spaces for gathering, celebration, and coexistence around football.
The project is supported by Itxaropena Taberna and the Peña Realzale Basque Txuriurdin. From the provincial side, in addition to the Sports Department, the Sustainability Department (providing merchandise) and the Mobility Department (reinforcing public transport services) are also participating.

"Sport is a tool for social cohesion, shared identity, and coexistence. It is also our responsibility as public institutions to create the conditions for major events like this to be enjoyed accessibly, safely, and with equal opportunities throughout the territory."

The mayor of Hondarribia, Igor Enparan, explained that the idea originated from the Peña Realzale of Hondarribia and the Itxaropena bar. The City Council then contacted both parties and the Gipuzkoa Provincial Council to organize the event jointly. Enparan expressed gratitude for their involvement and collaboration in making this day possible in Hondarribia.
Ioritz Mendikute, from Peña Realzale Basque Txuriurdin, highlighted the institutional support received. Iván Saenz, from Itxaropena bar, emphasized the importance of such initiatives for the municipality, noting that Real Sociedad does not reach a final like this every year, and it is a good opportunity to energize Hondarribia and enjoy it together.
The planned program will combine street entertainment, activities for all ages, and live broadcast of the match on giant screens installed in each fan zone. Both at midday and from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM, a txaranga band will tour the streets of the municipalities to warm up the atmosphere. From 7:30 PM to 8:30 PM, the entertainment will continue in the fan zone itself, where pre-match activities will be concentrated and where the giant screens will be located to follow the final, which starts at 9:00 PM.
