CD Bidasoa has announced the arrival of young right winger Miguel Ángel Martín Duque, who joins the Gipuzkoan club on loan from FC Barcelona. With this move, the Artaleku team completes the generational change on the right wing, where Julen Mujika continues. Martín, born in Lanzarote in 2007, made his debut last season in the Asobal League and the Champions League.
The operation, announced simultaneously by both clubs, links the player's short-term future with Artaleku, although he has renewed his contract with Barcelona until 2029 before signing his loan. According to the statement from the Catalan club, the initial agreement is for two seasons, but Barcelona reserves an option to recall him at the end of the first campaign.
Martín began his training at CB San José Obrero on his home island, before moving to La Masía in 2022 with the aim of advancing his career. At just 18 years old, he is considered a young talent with great potential. Coaches who have followed him closely highlight his complete profile, with the ability to contribute both in attack and in the center of defense, characteristics reinforced by his 2.00 meters in height and his wingspan.
Despite his youth and regularly competing with the Barcelona reserve team in the División de Honor Plata, the Canarian player already has experience in the top category. His debut in the Asobal League occurred last season against Guadalajara, accumulating 31 goals in the domestic competition between the previous and current campaigns. Coach Antonio Carlos Ortega has also given him opportunities at the European level, calling him up for several EHF Champions League matches, where he has already scored a goal against Nantes.
His integration into the Artaleku locker room, where he will share a position with Julen Mujika, will be facilitated by his prior acquaintance with several of his future teammates and the coach, thanks to his career in the lower categories of the Spanish national team. With them, he has been a junior European champion and youth World runner-up. He has shared a locker room with Bidasoa talents such as Unai Barreto and goalkeeper David Faílde, and has worked under the guidance of Bidasoa coach Álex Mozas, with whom he coincided in the junior national team as an assistant coach during the 2024 European Championship.
