Amidst the festive atmosphere of the San Joanak festivities, Hernani has clinched the Interpueblos Championship, contested at the Atano III fronton in Donostia. Winning all three matches, the Hernani team ends a 14-year wait and brings the trophy back home. The atmosphere in the stands was exceptional, with a large crowd attending from both Hernani and Aduna.
The Hernani team began their path to victory in the cadet category. Oier Arsuaga and Lier Zugasti faced off against Aduna's Hodei Barriola and Xuhar Iparragirre. Despite the final score (22-9), the first half was a hard-fought battle, particularly against the Aduna back player Iparragirre, who displayed great power in both defense and attack.
The Hernani players established an early lead (6-1), but Aduna closed the gap after a break (6-4). Thanks to three errors from Iparragirre, the home team extended their advantage again (9-4). However, the Aduna player's resurgence reignited the competition (10-8). After the break, the Hernani players showcased their best performance, notably with six points scored by Arsuaga through serves. They ultimately secured a decisive victory with a score of 22-8.
The second match, in the junior category, was also highly intense. Ekhi Oses and Manex Alberdi (Hernani) competed against Aiert Aburuza and Peru Cestau (Aduna). The game was lively from the start, but Oses's dominance proved decisive. With his powerful smashes and volleys, the Hernani players achieved 12 consecutive points (20-4), sealing the match with a 22-5 scoreline.
The third and final match, in the senior category, capped off the celebration. Xabi Apaolaza and Markel Lizeaga (Hernani) played against Andoni Olasagasti and Joanes Cestau (Aduna). All four players demonstrated a good level, but the Hernani team proved more solid, particularly Apaolaza in the initial points. The final score was 22-9, thus securing the championship victory for Hernani.
