Alberto Intxaurraga, the PNV mayor of Artea, has submitted his resignation citing «professional reasons», one year ahead of the 2027 municipal elections, with Ainara Sánchez appointed as his interim replacement.

The PNV has announced that Alberto Intxaurraga is stepping down from his position as mayor of Artea due to «professional reasons». Intxaurraga, 57 years old, led the party list in the 2019 elections, when the jeltzale formation regained the mayoral staff lost in previous elections by securing the four seats that gave them a majority in the Arratia town council. He ran for re-election in 2023 and achieved the same result, although the main opposition party, EH Bildu, gained three seats, taking one from the local platform Aldatuz Herri.
The Bizkai Buru Batzar has expressed gratitude for his «dedication» during this period, as well as for his eight years as a councillor. The mayor departs after having fulfilled «one of the main milestones of his mandate»: the launch of Ailarak Musiktopa, a contemporary center for arts and heritage built on the site of the old Ekomuseo, which was inaugurated on March 23.
His provisional replacement will be Ainara Sánchez, currently the second councillor, until the jeltzale municipal assembly designates the person who will occupy the mayoral position for the remaining year of the legislature, leading up to the 2027 elections.
