Euskotren has announced the suspension of the Vitoria-Gasteiz tram service on the section between the Parlamento and Angulema stations. The disruption will begin on Monday, August 10, and will last until September 6. Other lines will operate normally, and the two mentioned stops will serve as temporary termini.
The reason for this interruption is the urbanization works that ETS (Euskal Trenbide Sarea - Basque Railway Network) will undertake on Alaba Jenerala and Independentzia streets, which are part of the common trunk of the urban tramway.
As previously announced, following the La Blanca festivities and coinciding with a period of lower activity in the city, ETS will commence the most significant works on the main tram platform. The works are projected to start in early September, aligning with the return to activity of most educational institutions. However, if weather conditions permit, Euskotren and ETS will attempt to advance the resumption of the tram service.
These works are the result of an agreement reached with the City Council, aiming to enhance the integration between public and private transport in the central commercial axis. The planned actions include the installation of uniform paving throughout the work area. Additionally, a section of the tracks will be renewed at the junction of Independentzia, Araba Jenerala, and Foruak streets, and approximately 20 manholes will be repaired.
From September onwards, after the tram service is restored, works will continue in the adjacent area between the tram platform and the sidewalks, as the construction is expected to extend until the end of the year. ETS will strive to minimize the impact on local residents and businesses.
