Educational centers in Vitoria-Gasteiz have commenced the third school term, with attention directed towards the San Prudencio holiday week, scheduled from April 25 to May 3, which will impact economic activity.

Schools in Álava have embarked on a two-week academic period that will culminate in the San Prudencio holiday week. Most educational institutions will observe a break from April 25 to May 3, with only a few exceptions of schools holding classes on Wednesday and Thursday.
This holiday period significantly impacts the region's economy. April has become a second August for Álava, a trend reflected in the Industrial Production Index. Both production and the output of manufactured goods experience a notable decline, attributed to the simultaneous occurrence of Holy Week, Easter Week, and the San Prudencio festivities. This downturn was also observed in 2025, when many companies experienced three weeks of holidays or reduced activity.
For 2026, the celebration of San Prudencio on a Tuesday and Labor Day on a Friday will again create this situation. In 2027, however, each school will likely decide its own calendar, as only Wednesday, April 28, will be a public holiday.
Nevertheless, in 2026, many will take advantage of these days to travel. Those who remain in the city will have the opportunity to ascend to Armentia on April 28 for the pilgrimage. They will also go out to party on the night of April 27, although this date is no longer as prominent on the festive calendar as it once was, and local hospitality businesses have noted a decrease in clientele in recent years.
The San Prudencio week will once again trigger a mass exodus of residents from Vitoria-Gasteiz to other destinations. Many will seek sun and beaches in places like Salou or Benidorm. For those planning to visit Port Aventura, April 28 and 29 appear to be the best days for that week in terms of lower crowds. In Benidorm, San Prudencio will be celebrated again, and the 'tun-tun' sound will resonate on Poniente Beach as if it were Plaza de la Provincia. Ryanair flights and getaways to nearby spots also emerge as vacation alternatives.
