Various collectives and basketball clubs in Vitoria have condemned statements made by Baskonia player Rodions Kurucs regarding sexist violence, urging the club to take action.

Several social collectives and basketball clubs in Vitoria have denounced the statements made by Rodions Kurucs, a player for Baskonia, about sexist violence on social media and in a radio interview. They explained that the player has downplayed sexist violence, using his own case to claim that abuse is a "two-way phenomenon" and that "many men are unjustly accused".
The collectives have refuted the narrative surrounding false accusations, stating that they are "systematically used to question the testimony and the violence experienced by many women," thereby obscuring the real issue. They also denounced the increasing normalization of reactionary discourse.
They emphasized that, as a Baskonia player, Kurucs holds a particular responsibility: "It is especially serious for such messages to be spread by a prominent athlete with significant reach." In this regard, they have called on the club to take measures and position itself against sexist discourse.
The statement was signed by Itaia Gasteiz, Amarauna Basket Fem, Indar Baskonia, Ecagas, CB Siberia Gasteiz, Jotake, Elemento Sport Lakua, and Urgatzi 1. Nazional Senior Mutilak.
