The territory is facing a summer with mortality rates linked to heat that are significantly higher than those of the previous year. Since the activation of the Heat Plan on May 15, the MoMo system has recorded 62 deaths, compared to the 8 registered during the same summer period in 2025.
June was the most severe month, with 26 deaths, while July reached a historical peak with 23 fatalities. Episodes of extreme temperatures, which on some days exceeded 40 degrees, have had a direct impact on public health, particularly during the heatwave at the end of June.
This upward trend is also observed across Euskadi, which recorded 33 deaths in the first half of August. Nationwide, the number of heat-related deaths during that same period reached 1,108, marking the third-highest figure since the MoMo system began operating in 2015.
